Here are the players I ranked 41st thru 50th:
| George Brett | 1072 | 3B 3 |
| Roberto Clemente | 1071 | RF 5 |
| Joe DiMaggio | 1070 | CF 5 |
| Carlton Fisk | 1069 | C 3 |
| Bob Gibson | 1041 | P 12 |
| Gary Carter | 1036 | C 4 |
| Ivan Rodriguez | 1026 | C 5 |
| Christy Mathewson | 1025 | P 13 |
| Phil Niekro | 1024 | P 14 |
| Robin Yount | 1023 | SS 4 |
I would have liked Jackie Robinson at 42 (Life, the Universe and Everything), but he ended up at 55. If not, Jackie Robinson Roberto Clemente is the next best choice for 42, a magical number for me. I have interesting ideas (interesting at least to me) on what to write on the other four players in the top 45. It is interesting there are three catchers in this group. Catchers have the least players in the top 1,000 for position players, only beating relief pitchers. Not so surprising to have three pitchers. There are 281 pitchers in the top 1,000.
