No. 23 Negro Leagues Ben Taylor

Ben Taylor is a better player than his stats show. He was a good hitter for average .337 lifetime average for the stats that were found. Taylor also had good doubles power. Unfortunately, what Baseball Reference has is his career starting at age 30 for 9 years. I’m sure he was better in his 20s, which would make him quite a player.

He was recognized as an exceptional fielder at first base and his stats in Baseball Reference actually supports this. He was also a pitcher and pitched more when he was younger.

He managed after his retirement and owned a pool hall. He also printed and sold game programs for the Baltimore Elite Giants, so he was able to make a nice living apparently despite the color of his skin.

He seems like an intelligent, likeable who was a great ballplayer. I wish I could find more information about him.
