Negro Leagues Pioneer/Executive Alex Pompez

Alex Pompez was the owner of the New York Cuban Stars and was instrumental in organizing scouting in the Dominican Republic. He was involved in the game for 60 years.

When integration was taking place Pompez worked closely with New York Giants owner Horace Stoneman. He scouted black players for Stoneman and set up a working agreement between his club and the New York Giants. They were only black team to make an arrangement like this. Later on, Pompez was a scout for the Giants and became the head of International Scouting for the Giants.

With his scouting or Pompez had something and sometimes everything to do with the signing of every Latin American player in the 50s and 60s. His influence I’m sure lasts until this day with Latin American baseball.
